Chris Bealby, of North Lodge Racing, kindly hosted the first of a number of rallies for young jockeys yesterday, and it was widely agreed that it was a huge success.
The junior jockeys hope to take place in Garthorpe's inaugural race for Hunting Ponies, which will take place at the Melton Hunt Club meet on 10th May. Ponies which take part must be 14.2 or under. Ponies and jockeys must both have hunted but not previously taken part in any races.
At the rally, at North Lodge, Barrowby, the raw recruits were given a lesson on the equiciser by jockey Tom Messenger, before being taken out onto the grass gallop to put their new knowledge into practice!
Last night's rally could not have happened without the help and enthusiasm of Antonia Bealby, Frankie Fletcher, Kelly Morgan, and Tom Messenger who all generously gave up their time for the cause.
